KABAKA PYRAMID – „STICKS & STONES“
Das jamaikanische Produzenten-Duo Natural High Music und Kabaka Pyramid verschmelzen auf „Sticks And Stones“ mühelos HipHop mit Reggae. Die gemeinsame Single erscheint am 22. März bei Delicious Vinyl Island, dem Delicious Vinyl-Unterlabel für karibische Musik. Der Song ist die dritte Single von „Urban Roots II“, dem anstehenden Album von Natural High, die schon für Tracks wie Chronixx‘ „Black Is Beautiful“ und Wayne Marshalls „Glory To God“ verantwortlich zeichneten. Nachdem sie auch Kabakas „Reggae Music“ von dessen „Kontraband“-Album produziert hatten, war es naheliegend, ihn auch auf ihren eigenen Longplayer zu nehmen. Zumal beide tief im HipHop verwurzelt sind – Kabaka begann seine Karriere als Rapper, Natural High orientieren sich bei ihrem Sound an den Sample-getriebenen Produktionen von 90er-Jahre-Rap.
Jamaica’s Natural High Music and Kabaka Pyramid effortlessly blend hip-hop and reggae flavors on “Sticks and Stones,” out March 22 on Delicious Vinyl Island, the new Caribbean music imprint from iconic indie label Delicious Vinyl. The song is the third single from Urban Roots II, the upcoming full-length album from Natural High, the Kingston-based production duo behind such tracks as Chronixx’s “Black is Beautiful” and Wayne Marshall’s “Glory to God.” As far as the vibe, Natural High Music produced the track „Reggae Music“ from Kabaka Pyramid’s last album Kontraband, so it was only natural that he would appear on their new LP. That and the fact that both Natural High and Kabaka are Jamaicans who have roots in hip-hop — whether that’s Kabaka’s early career as a rapper, or Natural High’s sound, which is inspired by the sample-driven productions of ’90s rap.
The tune is released this friday on Delicious Vinyl Island.
